Early childhood education is experiencing its spotlight moment (finally!). Policy makers, business leaders, and parents are looking to early childhood care and education to dramatically improve the lives of children. With this hope comes increasing expectations for program quality and child learning and development. How can ECE professionals meet challenges like rating systems and performance standards while staying true to developmentally appropriate practice? Join Kyle Snow, Director of the Center for Applied Research at the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) in this webinar to explore the challenges and ideas about how to reconcile DAP with these demands.

Building off a record of economic analyses and high expectations, early childhood education is increasingly being seen as a "sound investment" for the future. While research tell is this argument is sound, it also introduces increased expectations and levels of scrutiny, including mandates and expectations, for early education. Initiatives from the development of quality rating and improvement systems (QRIS), to introduction of kindergarten entry assessments (KEAs) and the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) are all driven by a focus on early childhood education. These well-intentioned attention efforts to enhance early educational experiences can support developmentally appropriate practice (DAP). However, they may also introduce barriers, real or perceived, that need to be addressed. This session places these efforts into context and considers ways that ECE program directors and leaders can act to ensure that DAP continues to guide how we support and educate young children.
