About this webinar

How can early childhood educators build children's math skills while keeping learning playful, engaging, and developmentally appropriate? As expectations for early math learning continue to grow, teachers need practical strategies that support mathematical development without sacrificing the joy of play.

Join Deborah Stipek, Professor Emerita at Stanford University, to explore effective approaches to teaching math with children ages 3–6, including kindergarteners. Discover how to incorporate meaningful math learning opportunities into daily routines, extend children's mathematical thinking during free play, and design playful, teacher-guided activities that strengthen early math skills.

Through practical examples covering foundational math concepts, with an emphasis on counting and operations, you'll learn how to recognize opportunities for math learning throughout the day and make intentional instructional choices that support children's mathematical development.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Evaluate different approaches to supporting young children's math skills based on their developmental appropriateness and effectiveness.

  2. Identify strategies for incorporating meaningful math learning opportunities into everyday classroom routines and children's free play.

  3. Select developmentally appropriate, playful math activities that support young children's mathematical development.
