Emergent Curriculum is steeped in a strong theoretical background, is inquiry and play-based, and responds to the questions that arise from both children and teachers. Based on the work of Vygotsky, Dewey, and modern theorists such as Elizabeth Jones, Emergent Curriculum allows educators to respond to our observations of children, build upon their strengths, and scaffold their learning. Through this approach, learning is co-constructed through collaboration between children themselves and teachers. However, Emergent Curriculum is often misunderstood or misinterpreted! This webinar will explore the most common myths and misapplications.. We will explore the foundations and practices of Emergent Curriculum, including:

• What it is;

• What is not;

• How is translates into daily practice;

• How long and short term projects emerge;

• The classroom environment and pedagogical documentation as support.

The webinar will also explore how the Cycle of Inquiry helps educators to work from observations, through reflective practice, and into creative responses to children's ideas, questions, and theories. Through investigation of examples from real classrooms, we will create a shared understanding of Emergent Curriculum that you can take forward to enhance your program. This session will  provide insight for those who are new to Emergent Curriculum, those who are curious about how it works, as well as those who are already involved in the Emergent Curriculum journey.
