If you think about it, as an early childhood professional, building and strengthening relationships is part of what you do every single day. Early Relational Health (ERH) is an emerging concept that organizes the cumulative understanding of the relational foundation of children’s and adults’ health and well-being. As a profession, we have focused on research about brain science, return on investment in young children, the “word gap,” and the like, but using a lens of relational health is a new way to see our work. Unlike earlier research, the vision of ERH is inclusive (not limited to any one profession), reciprocal (caring for both children and the adults), and fundamentally rooted in relational human experiences.

Join this paradigm-shifting webinar presented by human development researcher and lecturer, Junlei Li, from Harvard Graduate School of Education and researcher Thelma Ramirez, from Ecological Approaches to Social and Emotional Learning (EASEL) Lab to consider how we can recognize early care and learning as an essential part of the early relational experiences for children and their families. Can we lift up our educators and providers as early relational health professionals alongside disciplines like pediatrics, home visiting, mental health, and others? Does it matter? This presentation is an invitation to explore these questions in the context of early care and learning leadership and advocacy work.

In this webinar, you will:

• Explore the science and concept of Early Relational Health and connect and compare that with existing ideas in early childhood;

• Understand the importance of this inclusive “relationship-centered” framework in describing the work of early care and learning.

• Discuss the foundational principles of the early relational health profession in creating a healthy ecological system for children, families, and professionals.
