About this webinar
Sponsored by Redleaf Press
Join Swedish early childhood care and education expert, Suzanne Axelsson, M.A. to explore how weaving wonder, curiosity, joy, knowledge, imagination, interaction, risk, time, reflection, and listening can bring teaching closer to a state of play. In this thought-provoking webinar, you will explore the foundations of Suzanne's book, The Original Learning Approach play-responsive approach to education. Suzanne will share how play informs educators about each child's learning and motivation, so teaching becomes focused on sense-making, meaning-making and world-making. Suzanne will share concepts and images from Sweden, as well as from other places around the world including Greece, Italy, China, Iceland, and Australia to further inspire your teaching practices.
Suzanne developed The Original Learning Approach after becoming disenchanted with the common misconceptions that play should be offered as "recess" from learning and teaching, and that learning and teaching should be focused on understanding rather than facts. The Original Learning Approach was written to offer reflective space to think about how play, learning, teaching and understanding come together for young children.
In this webinar you will:
think deeply about what is play and how often normative ideas of play can exclude.
consider how adult agendas impact how children participate and identify when we interact, intervene and interfere.
plan how to create environments for understanding, and
recognize how to become a play-responsive educator.
