Mary Benson McMullen, PhD, is Professor of Early Childhood Education at Indiana University-Bloomington where she’s been on faculty since 1993. She earned her undergraduate degree in physical sciences at Michigan State University and MS and PHD degrees from Florida State University in child development. She is a former infant-toddler and preschool teacher, and child care center director. Her research, widely published in academic journals, focuses on quality care and education for children birth-5; relationship- based infant/toddler practices; early childhood professional well-being; and perspectives on early childhood care and education across cultures and contexts. She co-authored Infants & Toddlers at Play: Choosing the Right Stuff for Learning & Development, co-edited the Wiley Handbook of Early Childhood Care and Education, and authored On Being and Well-being in Infant/Toddler Care and Education. Dr. McMullen and husband Rick (since 1982) live in Bloomington where they raised three sons.
