This session is sponsored by Nemours Bright Start!
Teachers of young children cannot go it alone when it comes to discipline. They need support from supervisors, curriculum planners and directors. The environment, the program design, staffing and the daily routine can either make it easier or harder to implement thoughtful responses when children are having trouble regulating their behavior. This workshop will be a chance to explore ways the behind-the-scenes participants can provide the conditions that will enhance the experience of everyone involved — the children, the teachers, the parents and the administrators. We will explore the challenges of balancing autonomy with the need for structure and cooperation, security with the need for adventure and experimentation, and adults’ needs with children’s needs. There will be plenty of time for dialogue and sharing of wisdom among participants.
Three objectives:
1) Participants will see what certain adjustments to the environment will encourage self-discipline in young children;
2) Participants will see how the daily schedule impacts behavior, with some easy suggestions;
3) Participants will have ways to support caregivers/teachers in their direct contact with children through supervision and professional development.
All sessions are 1.5 hours long, and include a brief announcement from our sponsor.
2:oo PM – 3:30 PM Eastern Time.
