No matter what prior experiences your young students have had, engaging in science and engineering activities and the related discussions can help them learn more about the natural and human-made world. By including science and engineering learning every day for your students, you are providing experiences that will prepare them for later learning and stimulate children's' interest in learning mathematics and literacy skills as they seek to quantify and share their work. As a class endeavor, science and engineering learning will be the delight and responsibility of all students, not only the few who have family support for such interest.

In this inspiring webinar, you will learn which early science education experiences are best for developing a beginning scientific literacy. We will explore the process of Scientific inquiry and how to encourage young children to build on and refine their early ideas about the way world works. Our speaker, Peggy Ashbrook will share ideas about how The National Science Teachers Association Position Statement: Early Childhood Science Education (NSTA 2014), endorsed by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, applies to early education classroom practice. She will also outline how to implement the principles in the NSTA Position Statement: Early Childhood Science Education in your program.

In this session:

• Key points will be illustrated with examples from preschool classrooms where children engaged in scientific inquiry.

• Participants will practice identifying science and engineering practices in an early childhood exploration.

• We will decide next steps for implementing the principles and declarations of the NSTA Position Statement on Early Childhood Science Education in our program, whether we are administrators, child care providers, teachers, educators in an informal setting or have another role in early childhood education.

• Participants will take home a list of resources for further learning.

All sessions are 1.5 hours long, and include a brief announcement from our sponsor.
