Becoming bilingual is a proven advantage for young children’s brain development, for older children’s school success and even for adults to put off the effects of Alzheimer’s disease. Research shows that bilingual people develop self-regulation skills that help them focus on tasks and avoid distractions, language learning skills, and certain memory skills. This can help young children learn both their home language and their new language. It helps children do better in school.  Research has even found that bilingual people are less likely to experience Alzheimer's disease. With an eye toward the future,  many early childhood education programs in the United States are adding additional language learning to their agenda. With the growing diversity of our population of children under age 6, most early childhood programs are also faced with the challenges of teaching children who are new to English.  Bilingual books, stories, and activities can strengthen your program’s ability to meet all of these needs if used correctly.  This webinar will explain the implications of research that you can implement to bring the bilingual advantage to everyone in your school community.
