Mileidis Gort, Associate Professor of Bilingualism and Biliteracy, joined The Ohio State University faculty in August of 2013. Her primary goals as a researcher are to understand the nature of emergent bilingualism and biliteracy in early childhood, and to use that knowledge to influence pre K-12 teacher education and practice in order to create culturally- and linguistically-responsive learning contexts for emergent bilingual learners. Dr. Gort’s research has been published in a variety of peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes, and she is coeditor of the widely used text, Early Biliteracy Development: Exploring Young Learners’ Use of their Linguistic Resources (Routledge, 2011). Dr. Gort serves as national advisor to Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street and numerous other high quality children’s educational programming.
