Although we often think of educational equity as being exclusive to K-12 settings, research indicates that about half of the test score gap between Black and White students is already evident when children enter kindergarten. Just stop and think about that! BEFORE children even enter “formal” schooling, they suffer from inequity.
These findings are important because they suggest that children who do poorly on cognitive tests prior to kindergarten entry are more likely to be low performing students throughout their schooling experience. Because of this, addressing educational inequities in early childhood is critical to eradicating the achievement gap.
This inspiring webinar presented by equity experts Jen Neitzel and Ebonyse Mead is designed to create a shift in how early childhood professionals view and address educational equity in early childhood settings. Join this webinar to participate in an overview of the current inequities that exist in early childhood programs and learn strategies to balance the scales of justice before young children enter Kindergarten. This session will help you an learn about implicit racial bias and its role in inequitable disciplinary practices, learning experiences, and how teachers form relationships with young children. You will leave the webinar with a better understanding of the inequities and barriers that sustain disparities in educational outcomes strategies and practices that can be implemented to promote more equitable learning experiences for all children.
