This session is part of the Follett Growing Readers Series
Are you taking full advantage of the magic librarians can bring your programs? You may just have overlooked some of the best resources that are right at your fingertips! Librarians have unique skill sets and perspectives on developing early childhood objectives in all domains, especially early literacy development. They are often welcoming early education partners who approach learning and resource management with a different approach that you may have never considered. This session will describe how libraries in public and school settings have already engaged in successful early education efforts in their communities, and will describe the benefits of partnering with libraries and librarians.
Dr. Mary Stansbury, a professor at the University of Denver, has developed the first Early Childhood Librarianship Master’s program in the country, with coursework in child development, family and school psychology, literacy acquisition, and library science. The program was developed in partnership with early childhood educators, early literacy advocacy organizations, and faculty in child, family, and school psychology. Using her unique early childhood and library science lens, in this webinar, Dr. Stansbury will offer new perspectives about how administrators can:
- use intentional approaches for selecting resources and supporting teachers in their use of those materials;
- how libraries throughout the country support early literacy and early childhood education;
- how to take advantage of the efforts of libraries and the unique contributions of libraries to early literacy; and,
- ways to partner with libraries in support of your program.
Join us to put learn fresh approaches to developmentally appropriate practice.
