Ron Blatz is the Executive Director of Discovery Children’s Centre, a Not-for-Profit Child cafe Centre in Winnipeg, Canada, where he has worked for over 41 years. Discovery Centre has over 300 children enrolled between the ages of 9 months – 12 years and is widely known for it’s interest in employing a gendered balanced staff and encouraging a strong connection between children and nature. His 14 male and 35 female staff stand in contrast with the the Canadian child care sector sitting at about 3% male. The centre staff are presently spending 44% of their time outdoors with the children which is about 800% more than the average Canadian centre. Ron also was an original member of international leadership team for the World Forum’s working group on Men in Early Childhood Education (MECE) and for 15 years has also led a local MECE group in Winnipeg, Canada.
